Jul 27, 2010 - Announcement: General Release – Data Archiving For Adabas V1.1
|
|
|
|
Data Archiving for Adabas v1.1 is now available in release status: General Availability (GA).
Software AG developed Data Archiving for Adabas to help customers who are facing data storage problems brought on by the exponential growth in data and regulatory requirements to retain more data. This feature-rich tool speeds up the performance of Adabas on any platform by removing infrequently used data from the production database and storing it into a long-term archive. Data Archiving for Adabas provides automated archiving functions and robust tools for search, verification, extraction, restore & recovery so you will easily be able to meet current and emerging data retention requirements.
By archiving unneeded information, database performance can be improved by more than 30%. By lightening the database load, customers can improve the response time of the application, backups and database reorganizations. Thanks to this lightened load, customers can improve SLAs with shorter outage windows for database upgrades and recovery. Customers will also pass the ever growing regulatory inspections from legal mandates such as HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Basel II by keeping data from multiple Adabas databases accessible longer by archiving and protecting that data in a single, separate data repository.
Data Archiving for Adabas v1.1 provides the following benefits:
- Archiving data positively affects OLTP application performance - The size of the database can affect the response time of applications, backups, restores and database reorganization
- Save money by deferring hardware purchases - Enterprises can defer new server and especially storage purchases by archiving data to a cheaper medium, which shrinks database size.
- Archiving can increase database availability - Archiving can also reduce the outage window for database restore/recovery situations, which can enhance SLAs.
- Meet regulatory requirements which require data to be kept accessible longer - Growing regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Basel II, are forcing enterprises to keep data longer, in some cases up to seven years. Archiving helps meet these requirements by keeping data protected in a separate data repository
Key Features Of Data Archiving For Adabas V1.1
- Archives historical data to a set of intelligently managed, permanent files on Linux/UNIX/Windows or mainframe platforms - once data is moved safely to a permanent offline vault, it’s deleted from the source database
- Facilitates archiving of seldom-used data to an intermediate store, an Adabas database - allows application to still access data while keeping the primary production database as small as possible
- Stores business data and metadata - accounts for changes in the structure of business data by storing the changed file structure
- Provides built-in restart and recovery in case an archiving action is interrupted—no extensive procedure required
- Allows a two-step archiving approach by using a copy-only and delete-only function.
- Validates the vault to guarantee accessible data whenever needed, even after decades.
- Offers a powerful lightweight search capability for data archived in the vault. The result of a search can be recalled to an Adabas database for further processing with the appropriate tooling e.g. Natural or ODBC, JDBC based reporting tools, if using the Adabas SQL Gateway.
- Recall archived data from a vault for further analysis
- Discard data automatically at the end of its life cycle
- Co-operates with Adabas Vista by archiving from or recalling to an Adabas Vista partition, and redirect the application to such a partition using Adabas Vista’s file translation capability.
- Do everything from one sophisticated GUI interface: establish your environment; define actions; run actions automatically; search and recall data; and validate vault functions

Dec 15, 2009 - Predict v4.6.1 is now available in General Release
|
|
|
|
Predict, the active data dictionary serves as the central repository of information all people involved in developing, running and maintaining application software. Predict is used to describe and document applications and provide services for using this information when designing, implementing, operating and maintaining the application system. The information stored includes details about what data is stored and where, which application components work with which data, and who creates and maintains data stores and business logic.
In addition, Predict supports the design of file structures (including the relationships between files). Database files can be designed on a logical, database-independent level. Predict can then generate the physical database structures, such as relational schemata (e.g. for DB2) or Adabas File Definition Tables (FDT), as well as the Data Definition Modules (DDM) for Natural. Predict is available for all relevant operating and hardware platforms including mainframes, Unix, Linux, Windows and OpenVMS.
HIGHLIGHTS OF PREDICT V4.6.1:

Mar 11, 2009 - Dedication to Helmut Bauer
|
|
|
|

We are in deep mourning for our colleague Helmut Bauer who passed away on February 11 2009.
His efforts are the base for the success we have with the Developer Communities, CentraSite Community and discussion forums. Most of the features and services we are taking advantage of today were initiated by Helmut. Until his last days at Software AG Helmut did the utmost to support us with all his expertise. He leaves a big hole and we miss him as skilled colleague, as well as a great person. Because of that and of the fact that his footprint is on most of the things we are doing, we dedicate our work to him.
We will always remember him.
